Thinking outside the box and trying something new pays off! The project "Barrier-free show mine Leogang" realized in 2021 with the Leogang Miners' Association was awarded the Leogang Tourism Prize. This project, which was rather unusual for us, showed us through the positive response that the topics of mining and geology are of interest to many and that the transfer of knowledge in these areas is welcomed.

The barrier-free mine is equipped with all sorts of information about mining, geology and the mining history of Leogang. On the virtual discovery tour through the tunnel system, as well as on a guided tour through the Barbara and Daniel tunnels, you will learn interesting facts about this once very important economic sector in Austria.

During the project, not only the mine was digitized (https://schaubergwerk-leogang.com/virtuelle-tour/), but also a free bilingual audio guide was installed (Hearonymus App - can also be enjoyed comfortably from the sofa), the website was modernized, created a new geology display board and reactivated the area around the broken Erasmus tunnel for further projects.

The project showed us once again how important good cooperation and communication with our project partners and customers is in order to implement innovative projects. And the follow-up project is already in the works... one can be curious!

In any case, we can recommend a visit to the Schwarzleo Valley next spring-both above and below ground!

The project and the follow-up project currently being developed were funded by the state of Salzburg as part of the Covid-19 special funding program for regional museums, funding measure: digitization projects.
